"Benjamin was my great grandfather. He married Lillie Saul. They had 9 kids, Mary (aka Mayme), Bessie, Bertha, Lillie, Earl (who died youn g ), John (who died young), David, George and Paul. Paul was my gran d fa ther. He married Irma Stoudt."
- Before their marriage, Benjamin lived with his father at 417 S. 11t h St., Reading. Lillie lived with her father and step-mother at 408S . 11th St., Reading. It is likely they met as neighbors. They alsos e em to have attended the same church, St. John's German Reformed,sinc e Elias and Marie Fink were married there in 1876.
Benjamin and Lillie lived at several addresses in Reading between 188 4 and 1912. It is assumed that they moved to larger apartments as th e ir family grew. They were living at 448 N. 10th St. at the time ofL i l lie's death.

"My earliest confirmed Christman ancestor is George b. 1775, d. 1853. F rom 1852-1855, Berks County kept death records. George's record sta t e s that he was born in Maxatawny Twp., Berks Co. His parents were C a s p e r and Barbara. Maxatawny Twp., is located in eastern Berks C ou nt y ,a dj acent to Lehigh Co. Yes, Halana Trout was George Christman's second wife. His third was
Emma Nein. In 1870 (I think. This is off the top of my head at them o ment)
the Neins lived very close to the Christmans in Alsace Twp. They were
listed close together in the census. Emma was about the age of Georg e 's
kids. He later married her. Apparently, it was her first marriage.S h e
out-lived George. If I remember correctly, the names of all three wi v es are
on the same stone with George's name in the cemetery at Spies' Church.
I took a picture of it. When I have time (probably after Christmas), I 'll
scan it and send it to you.

Benjamin was my great grandfather. He married Lillie Saul. They had9
kids,Mary (aka Mayme), Bessie, Bertha, Lillie, Earl (who died young), J ohn (who
died young), David, George and Paul. Paul was my grandfather. He ma r ried
Irma Stoudt.

My Dad, Bob Christman, has a brother, Bruce and a sister, Mary Lou. I ' m
the oldest of 4 kids. My brothers, Paul and Jim were named after our
grandfather and our grandmother's brother, James Stoudt. I also havea
sister, Martie (Martha) named after one of my Mother's grandmothers.

Benjamin's sister, Susan was married twice. Her first husband was Ow e n
Rhoads. My grandfather, Paul's middle name was Owen. I'm betting it w as
after his uncle. They had a son, Owen Garfield Rhoads who was knownas
Garfield. He died young, in his teens, I think.) Dad's cousin's wid o w knew
"Aunt Sue" and seems to remember hearing there was a daughter who also
died, possibly in infancy. She may have been named Florence. Susan's
husband, Owen died while Garfield was still a boy. Sue and Garfieldm o ved
in with Albert Fisher, a grocer. She was a servant and within a fewy e ars
they were married. He was a widower. I found out later, he was also O wen Sr's
uncle Fisher's first wife and Owen's mother were sisters. Owen was l iving
with his grandfather, David Neff in Reading when he met Sue. They're m ostly
all buried at Charles Evans Cemetery in Reading. I haven't found Owe n 's
parents names yet.

Their brother George lived in Reading too. I don't have too much
information about him, but have found him in Reading City Directories a nd a couple of
censuses.

George was a shoe and basket maker in Alsace Township.
