E. Virginia Shearer, 70, of Myrtle Avenue, Lower Alsace Township, die d of natural causes Sept. 6 at 11:15 a.m. in Reading Hospital, wheres h e had been a patient for one day. She was the wife of Irvin E. She a r er. Born in Exeter Township, she was a daughter of the late Edgar M . and Amelia (Hafer) Arters. Shearer had been employed for manyy e a r s a s a cafeteria worker by the Antietam School District, untilhe r r e tire ment. She previously worked as a supervising telephone op e r a t or f or Be ll Telephone, Reading. She was a member of Frieden s U nit e d Chur ch of Christ, Oley. Shearer was former neighborhood c ha i rm a n o f the An tieta m District Girl Scouts of America. She i sa l s o sur vive d by a da ughter , Donna M. (Shearer) Hartman, St. L aw r en c e; a n d two s ons, Gary E., Cov entry, R.I., and Kevin J., Col um b i a, M d . Ot her surv ivors incl ude two brothers, G. Fran k Art ers a nd Edga r D. Kenneth H. Arters Sr., a former excavator, died Thursday at 4:35 a.m. i n Reading Hospital, where he had been a patient since Tuesday. Art e r s owned and operated Kenneth H. Arters Excavating from his reside n ce f or 20 years. Arters, 74, of 4175 Painted Sky Road, Exeter Town sh i p , w as the husband of Ruth E. (Brumbach) Arters. Born in Exete r T o w n s hip , he was a son of the late Edgar M. and Amelia (Hafer ) Art er s . H e ha d also been employed for 40 years as a machinist b y Tex t ile Ma chi ne Wo rks of Wyomissing, retiring in 1989. Betty J. Auchenbach-Cas-mus, 87, Sinking Spring, died Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2012, in ManorCare Health Services, Sinking Spring. She was the wife of Joseph M. Casmus. Born in Reading, she was a daughter of the late Warren and Dora L. (Ha-fer) Auchenbach. She was a secretary for the United Steel Workers Assoc. for many years until retiring. She served in the U.S. Marine Corps in World War II. She was a member of Advent Lutheran Church, West Lawn. She was also a member of Friendly Horseman's Club of Denver, PA, Alpha Iota Sorority, Women Marines Association, Russell Butterweck Marine Detachment and Women Vet-erans of Berks Co. She was a 1942 graduate of Reading HS, a 1948 graduate of McCann School of Business, and a 1956 graduate of Philadelphia School of Modeling. In addition to her husband, survivors include: Joseph W. Casmus, husband of Ruth, of Milford, PA, David M. Casmus, husband of Succoro, of El Paso, TX, and Robert J. Casmus, husband of Teresa, of Salisbury, NC; four stepgrandsons, three stepgranddaughters and one stepgreat-grandson. She was predeceased by a brother, Robert Auchenbach. A viewing will be in Lutz Funeral Home Inc., Mt. Penn, on Sunday from 7-9 p.m. Services will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Advent Lutheran Church, 16 Telford Ave., West Lawn, PA 19609. No viewing Monday. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Reiffton. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the church's Memorial Fund at the above address.
