Eugene Y. Hafer, 82, Wind Gap, formerly of Oley, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 26, 2010, at 1:40 a.m. in ManorCare Health Services, Bethlehem, where he was a resident since Dec. 9. Born in Oley, he was a son of the late Arthur and Mamie (Yoder) Hafer. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Lobachsville; and the Pike Township Sportsmen's Association. He was also a member of the 2 Cylinder club and was a former member of the Oley Valley (Pike Township) School Board. He was employed as a supervisor for 43 years at the former Boyertown Auto Body Works, retiring in 1990. He is survived by two sons, Dennis E. Hafer, and wife, Audrey, Bally; and Robert T. Hafer, Laureldale; and a daughter, Diane L., wife of Robert Soley, Douglassville. Also surviving are a brother, Linwood Hafer, Oley; and four sisters: Evelyn Heacock, Earlville; Barbara Toms and Joanne Angstadt, both of Gabelsville; and Pauline Rhoads, Oley. There are also a grandson, Deric Hafer; and three stepgrandchildren: Robert Soley Jr., Meghan Soley and Sean Soley. He was predeceased by a daughter, Rosemary Hafer, on Aug. 28, 2009; and a sister, Mary Ellen Sanders. Services will be held in Blankenbiller Funeral Home, 423 Main St., Oley, on Thursday, Dec. 30, at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Lobach's Cemetery, Pike Township. Friends and family may view on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. in the funeral home.
