He was buried in Fairview Cemetery, Main Street, Kutztown, PA. He was a veteran of World War II. Lewis E. Hafer, 88, Fleetwood, died in Kutztown Manor, where he had resided since March 11, 2007. He was a member of Grace Evangelical Congregational Church, Kutztown, and the Lyons and Kutztown fire companies. He was a member of the Coast Guard and the Merchant Marine, serving during World War II. Mr. Hafer was a truck driver for Atlas Minerals and Chemical, Mertztown, for 26 years, retiring in 1986. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a daughter, Joanne M. (Hafer) Metzler, last residing in Fleetwood, and a son, Gary K. Hafer, Bowmanstown. Other survivors include five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be Monday in Fairview Cemetery, Kutztown, with the Rev. Phil S. Walck officiating and military honors provided by the honor guard of Ray A. Master American Legion Post 217, Topton.

"LEWIS M. HAFER. Was born in Alsace township and resided in Oley tow n ship later in his life. His mother dying when he was 7 years old,h e live with his relatives until he was 16 and then began to learn the t r ade of shoemaker which he followed for seven years.
